Arthur Gregory was born in Melbourne in 1867, the son of George Frederick Gregory, famous marine painters, and assisted his father with his work, later taking over his father’s studios in South Melbourne. He was appointed Marine Artist to Lord Brassey, K.C.B., and Henry Loch, M.C.M.B., both Governors of Victoria; the Victorian Navy and the Marine Companies.
