Born in Victoria in 1872, Charles Nuttall studied at the National Gallery School of Victoria. A black and white artist, etcher and illustrator, he worked as a cartoonist for Melbourne's 'Table Talk' and 'Punch' and for the Sydney 'Bulletin'. In 1905 be went to the USA and contributed to magazines there, returning in 1910. Colour-blind, Nuttall was noted for his monochrome of the opening of the first Commonwealth Parliament.
