Born in Melbourne in 1926, Ian Sime studied at the Ueno University, Japan. He worked as an army lecturer in Japan in 1948, and held his first exhibition in Melbourne in 1954. A surrealist and abstract painter, he held several exhibitions in Victoria. He was a Council Member of the Contemporary Art Society oin Melbourne and Vice President from 1956 to 1962.
