Born in Takapau, New Zealand in 1940, Desmond Helmore studied for a Diploma of Fine Arts (Hons), at the University of Canterbury Ilam School of Fine Arts from 1959 to 1961, and from 1967 to 1969 lived and worked in London. He has exhibited commercially and with the Canterbury Society of Arts since 1960.
