Phil Belbin was born in Beecroft, NSW in 1925. He studied at East Sydney Technical College then worked in the art department of the Sydney Sun. During World War II he served in the Australian Air Force. A painter, cartoonist, comic strip artist and illustrator, he worked with K.G. Murray Publications for 30 years from the 1940s to the 1970s where he created hundreds of illustrations, cartoons and comics. He often signed his work with pseudonyms. He was also a keen marine artist. Copies of many of his publications are held by the Mitchell Library in Sydney. Belbin received a Citation of Merit from the New York Society of Illustrators in 1974.
