About Edith Ngaio Marsh
A New Zealand novelist, journalist and artist, Ngaio Marsh was born in 1895. Between 1913 and 1919 Marsh attended Canterbury College School of Art as a part-time student, supplementing her income with private tutoring. She was a member of the Canterbury Society of Arts, but in 1927 she was part of an exhibition by The Group, organised to differ from the conservative hanging policy of the Society's method of selecting works for exhibition. Although she continued to paint throughout her life, Marsh gradually gave up serious artistic aspirations and in 1928 travelled to England where she continued her literary career.
Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 2014.
