Born in 1897 near Newcastle, New South Wales, studied painting with Julian Ashton and James R Jackson in Sydney, interupted by, and then resumed after World War I. From 1921 to 1926, Lloyd exhibited with galleries in Sydney and Melbourne, showing traditionally styled landscapes and Sydney harbour scenes. He visited Britain and Europe again in the late 1920s, moving permanently to London in the 1930s. He was elected member of the exclusive Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1936 with whom he regularly exhibited, and of the London Sketch Club, of which he was President in 1941 and 1942. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy in London. From the 1950s he spent much of his time in Europe, and exhibited in Paris, living in France in the 1970s before returning to London where he died in 1983.
