A New Zealand artist, Helen Brown was born in 1917, and attended classes at the Elam School of Fine art from from 1940 to 1946. Working in oil, watercolour and tempera she painted simplified scenes of the Auckland area. In the 1940s. She was active in the Rutland Group in Auckland formed by students from the Elam School, with whom she exhibited. She also worked as a commercial designer for for 35 years.
