Born in the Netherlands in 1916, Kees Hos studied at the Royal Academy in the Hague. A painter and printmaker, he arrived in New Zealand in 1956 where he lectured at Elam School. Kees migrated to Australia in the early 1970s to establish the Gippsland School of Art, at the Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education, Churchill Victoria. He retired circa 1980 and lived for some time in Newborough, Victoria before entering Dutch Care in Melbourne and then returned to New Zealand.
