About Pat Hanly
A New Zealand artist, Patrick Hanly was born in Palmerston North in 1932. He studied at the Canterbury University School of Art, and in 1957 went to London and Europe where he worked and studied European artists such as Chagall, Picasso and Bacon. He returned to New Zealand in 1962. Hanly has exhibited widely in New Zealand and overseas and has won a number of awards.
Pat Hanly is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1988 of 1,298, of which 915 (70%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $222,548 for Suburban Innocents sold by Art+Object in March 2015. This year 60 works have been offered for sale. Works by Pat Hanly are held by the Auckland Art Gallery, Museum Of New Zealand and a further three major public national galleries (see list below).
