Thomas Swainson Croxford R.A.was the cousin of William Edward Croxford R.A. a highly accomplished and very prolific Victorian watercolour artist of the Newlyn School and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London in 1876-1884. Thomas primarily painted landscapes in oil. He deserted his wife and son and in about 1901/2 emigrated to Melbourne Australia. In 1904 his wife divorced him on the grounds of desertion. He remarried in Australia and died in 1916 at the age of 62.
The total number of works by Thomas Croxford offered for sale by auction since 1975 is 35, of which 19 (54%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,800 for The Cove sold by Leonard Joel in November 1988. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2020.
