Sonny Pole was a well known caricaturist around the 1890s. He was born in Adelaide in 1871, and the family later moved to Melbourne where he studied at the National Gallery of Victoria School in 1888. In the early 1890s he lived at Charterisville then set up a signwriting and decorating business in central Melbourne. As well as being a caricaturist he also painted murals. He moved to Sydney in 1899. In 1901 he moved to London, and then to Canada where he lived for the rest of his life. Where he died in 1852.
