Born in Melbourne in 1903, Florence Shirlow was the daughter of artist John Shirlow (1869 - 1936). She studied at the National Gallery School in Melbourne from from 1925-32 and and later at the George Bell School Melbourne from c1938 - 39. She exhibited her work with the Contemporary Art Society in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Her work was shown in Classical Modernism: The Gerge Bell Circle at the National Gallery of Victoria in 1992.
