About Anthony Lister
Anthony Lister was born in Brisbane, Australia, in 1979, and later completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Queensland College of the Arts. He helped pioneer the stencil and street art movement in Brisbane before moving to New York in 2003 to work with his mentor, Max Gimblett. He met the New Zealand-born artist at the opening of Gimblett’s major solo exhibition at the Queensland Art Gallery. Since his first exhibition in 2001 he has held 33 solo exhibitions to 2010 in Australia, the USA, the UK, Italy and Canada and participated in 22 group exhibitions. Amongst the prizes he has been awarded are the 2003 Queensland College of Art Gallery Theiss Art Prize, the 2006 Mosman Art Prize in Sydney and the 2008 Art Gallery of New South Wales Dobell Prize for Drawing. He currently works and lives between Brisbane and Brooklyn New York.
