Born in 1919, Robin Kay is a representational painter working in watercolour, oil pastel and ink and a writer. In his final year at university he attended painting and drawing classes at the Canterbury University College of Arts. Between 1962 and 1970, he won 1st prize, 2nd prize and six merit awards for watercolour in the National Bank Art Awards.A member of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts with whom he exhibited from 1938 onwards, and also exhibited in the Hays Art Competitions in 1963, the Auckland Society of Arts, and the Canterbury Society of Arts.
