Bette Hayes was born in Sydney NSW in 1922. She studied at East Sydney Technical College from 1938, but her studies were interupted by World War II where she served in the armed forces. She lived in Papua New Guinea from 1950 to 1959 and then taught at secondary level in Townville for 7 years.In 1965 Bette Hayes was awarded the Townsville Art Prize. She exhibited in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and London in the 1970s.
