Born in the UK in 1944, Michael Piper is a self taught artist who arrived in Australia in 1970. In 1974 he began painting, principally miniature Australian landscapes and seascapes in oil on canvas. Since 1986 he has concentrated mainly upon Australian native birds with his first successful exhibition in Adelaide in 1987. His paintings of birds are extremely finely detailed, and he also tries to convey a sense of naturalism, illustrating the beauty of Australia's birds in a natural setting.

The earliest auction listing we have for Michael Piper is in 1986 and in total 26 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 14 (54%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,972 for Nature's Harmony sold by Elder Fine Art in May 2022. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022.
