Born in Latvia in 1939, Ivars Jansons arrived in South Australia in 1949. Jansons studied architecture and worked as an architect, which fostered his interest in art. He became a full time artist in 1964, holding his first solo exhibition in Melbourne three years later. Working in both oil and watercolour, he is principally a landscape painter, with works represented in several major collections. He passed away on 5 March 2017 in South Australia, aged 78 years.
