About Mary Edwards
Born in Sydney in 1896, Mary Edwards studied art in Sydney and Paris. She is best known as a portrait painter, but also paints scenes from her frequent trips to the Pacific Islands. With Joseph Wolinski, she was the plaintiff in the Dobell-Joshua Smith Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize court case in 1945. A frequent exhibitor in Archibald competitions. She is also known as Mary Edwell-Burke.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $88,358 for Heritage sold by Menzies in March 2012. This year one work has been offered for sale.
