Born in Sydney in 1954, Graeme Townsend studied at the Julian Ashton School, and the Alexander Mackie School, Sydney, and overseas. A modernist style artist he has exhibited in Sydney, with his first solo exhibition in 1973, and since then almost annually in the eastern states of Australia. Since 1979, Graeme Townsend has undertaken painting and photographic expeditions to Borneo, Africa, Asia, America and outback Australia. In 1981 he was commissioned to paint a series of murals for the Royal Exchange Building in Sydney. And in 1991 he was a lecturer in acrylic painting at the Julian Ashton school.
