A New Zealand artist, Tony Lane was born in Katikati in 1949, He studied at the University of Auckland Elam School of Fine Arts and graduated with a Diploma of Fine Arts, one of his teachers being Colin McCahon. He moved to Wellington in 1974, where he was based for nearly 28 years. A contemporary artist, he was awarded travel grants from the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council in 1978 and 1984 and in 1999 was awarded a Goethe Institute Scholarship, spending time in Berlin. As well as new Zealand, his work has been shown in public and commercial gallleries in Europe, Hong Kong, USA, and Australia. In 2002, he moved from Wellington to Auckland and he lives between Auckland and Mallorca.
