Born in England in 1911, Roberts arrived in Australia in 1920. He studied at the South Australian School of Arts and Crafts and is best known for paintings illustrating the mythological and dreamtimes of the Aborigines. Roberts illustrated eleven books covering Aboriginal culture and the Australian outback. He exhibited in Adelaide and Melbourne from 1963 to 1988.

We have records of art auction sales by Ainslie Roberts from 1975 and in total 130 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 81 (62%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $23,000 for The Creator Kala and Her Three Children sold by Elder Fine Art in November 2009. This year one work has been offered for sale.
