Elizabeth Rooney was born in Sydney in 1929 was an important figure in the revival of printmaking in Sydney in the post-war period. She studied at the East Sydney Technical College in 1949. She was a Foundation member of the Sydney Printmakers Group 1961 that included Henry Salkauskas, Earle Backen and Eva Kubbos, which exhibits annually in Sydney, throughout New South Wales in regional exhibitions and interstate. She was a regular exhibitor with the Contemporary Art Society. Rooney was a teacher at Willoughby Workshop Arts Centre, and the National Art School East Sydney and held six solo exhibitions in Sydney. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Australia, UK, Italy, USA and South East Asia and was awarded the Mosman Print Prize in 1966.
