Born in Hawthorn, Victoria in 1909, Eager studied art at Swinburne Technical College Art School, and the National Gallery Art School in Melbourne. He was a traditional painter in oils and pastel, and is a printmaker. He exhibited in Melbourne and won a number of awards, including the 1968 Sir Arthur Streeton Award and was a finalist in the Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize in 1944.
