A New Zealand landscape watercolourist E. Rosa Sawtel (nee Budden) was born in 1865. She was a foundation student at the Canterbury School of Art, and later exhibited there from 1894 as well as at the Auckland Society of Arts, the Canterbury Society of Arts, the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts from 1919, the Otago Art Society and The Group in Christchurch in 1940. Her work was also shown at the British Empire Exhibition, London in 1924 and the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition in Dunedin in 1925-6. She visited England in 1931 and 1934.
The total number of works by E. Rosa (Rosa) Sawtel offered for sale by auction since 1988 is 17, of which 14 (82%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,497 for Rural Scene with Stream sold by International Art Centre in November 2000. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2010. Works by E. Rosa (Rosa) Sawtel are held by the Christchurch Art Gallery.
