Theodore Penleigh Boyd was born in 1894 while his family were temporarily living in England, Penleigh Boyd arrived in Australia at the age of four. His parents, Arthur Boyd, and Emma Minnie à Beckett were both renowned painters. Penleigh Boyd studied at the Melbourne National Gallery School, visited Europe and exhibited at the Royal Academy. He was the winner of the Wynne Prize for landscape in 1914. As an artist, Boyd shows as much skill in watercolour as with oil. He is best known for his landscapes, which are represented in all state galleries and many provincial collections.
