Australian Aboriginal artist John Cummins studied commercial art at the Townsville College of TAFE gaining a degree in Commercial Art and Industry. His commissions include reproducing his work into posters for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC), designing the book cover of one of historian Henry Reynolds' books as well as designing the logo for the Fifth Festival of Pacific Arts in Townsville, 1988. More recently he has engaged in bark painting, using natural ochres and hair brushes.

Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 2011.
