Born in England in 1884, early 20th century photographer Cecil Bostock was a contemporary of Harold Cazneaux (1878 - 1953) with whom he worked in the 1920s and 1930s. The young Max Dupain trained in Bostock's studio from 1930-33 before becoming establishing his reputation. Bostock's studio contents were sold after his death in 1939 and some negatives were acquired by Dupain who made reprints from some.
