Mutlu Cerkez was born in 1964 in London, to Turkish Cypriot parents. He studied at the Victorian College of the Arts in 1987 and in 1988 had his first solo exhibitions at the City Gallery in Melbourne and the Australian Centre for Photography in Sydney, followed by exhibitions showing in the United States, Italy and Denmark, Brazil and Turkey. In 2005, he exhibited at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and was also included in the exhibition "Fieldwork Australian Art 1968-2002" with which the National Gallery of Victoria opened its Federation Square galleries. Çerkez did not always conventionally title his works, but they always displayed at least one date. It was not the date of creation of the work, but the Cerkez would remake the work. He died on 15 December 2005. In 2018 Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA), Melbourne presented a retrospective exhibition of all the artists works.

According to our records which cover the last 50 years, only 3 works by this artist have been sold by auction, of the 5 works offered for sale.
