Jody Broun is an Indigenous Australian artist and activist. She was born in 1963 and grew up in Perth, influenced by her mother's stories of having been 'taken away' and brought up in a mission completely separated from her family. In response Jody developed a very close affinity with her Aboriginal relatives and her native Pilbara land. Regular visits as a child instilled a love of the country, its people and their stories, which are the inspiration for her work. Jody Broun was the winner of the 1998 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award, and was a finalist for that award in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2005. Amongst other awards in 2006 she was a finalist for the Sunshine Coast Art Prize, the Heysen Prize for Australian Landscape from Hahndorf Academy South Australia, and the The Ergon Energy Central Queensland Art Award.
