Born in Sydney, David Perks studied commercial art in the United Kingdom and Europe in 1971 and worked in this field, before returning to Australia in 1972 when he became a full time painter. He has exhibited his realist paintings throughout New South Wales and won regional art awards. He lives and works in the Armidale area of Northern New South Wales.
