Born in Melbourne in 1948, Michael Fitzjames was awarded a Diploma of Fine Arts from the University of Tasmania. He was employed by 'The Guardian' in London from 1978 as an illustrator and with the 'National Times' and 'Sydney Morning Herald' from 1990 to 2000 and the Australian Financial Review from 2000 to 2012. He has exhibited his paintings in 25 solo exhibitions between 1969 and 2020 in Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney and in Germany and in numerous group exhibitions.
