An Australian aboriginal painter Julie Dowling was born in the Subiaco suburb of Perth in 1969. She gained a Diploma of Fine Art from Claremont School of Art in 1989, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Curtin University in 1992. Her first solo exhibition was in Fremantle in 1995 and since then has held 20 solo shows, mainly in Perth, with some in Sydney and Melbourne, and her work has been included in numerous group exhibitions. In 2006 she was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Literature by Murdoch University, and in 2013 was a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize.
