Born in Shanghai, China in 1950, James Willebrant studied at the National Art School, Sydney from 1968 to 1972 where he was awarded a Diploma of Painting. He was the winner of the National Art School Painting prize in 1970 and 1972. A modernist style figurative painter, he first exhibited in Sydney in 1971 and since then has exhibited in all Australian capital cities and some provincial areas, with a total of over 44 shows to 2015.
