Lawrence Starkey was born in Cairns, Queensland in 1959 and studied Commercial Illustration at Seven Hills College of Advanced Education in 1976-77, as well studying painting under private tutors. Working in oil on paper and canvas, he is known for his depiction of landscapes, wildlife and horses. His first solo exhibition was on the Gold Coast, Queensland in 1989 and since then he has exhibited in solo and group shows in Brisbane, Canberra and Melbourne, and extensively in the United States where he lived in the first decade of the 21st century.

We have records of art auction sales by Lawrence Starkey from 2011 and in total 49 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 39 (80%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $14,400 for Beating the Ride Off sold by Lawson~Menzies (now trading as Menzies) in November 2011.
