Born in 1946, Paul Cavell studied architecture and fine art at the University of Melbourne and Illustration and Graphics at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1967. A painter, printmaker and illustrator, he has held about 25 solo exhibitions since 1974 in Melbourne and has been artist in residence in several schools. He has won several provincial prizes and is represented in provincial collections. He won the Canberra Times National Art Award in 1980 and the Eltham Community Art Award in 1956.
We have records of art auction sales by Paul Cavell from 1990 and in total 22 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 14 (64%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,980 for Iris Still Life, Castlemaine sold by Leonard Joel in July 1998. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022. Works by Paul Cavell are held by the Ian Potter Museum of Art.
