Born in 1930, Ewald is the third son of Australian Aboriginal artist, Albert Namatjira. When he commenced painting in 1947, he was taught by his father and encouraged by Rex Batterbee and it was predicted that he would succeed his father as the major artist of the centre.

Ewald Namatjira is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1974 of 582, of which 454 (78%) were sold.
