Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1938, Lonyai studied in Budapest and at the Royal Art Society in Sydney after his arrival in Sydney in 1971. An impressionist painter in oil, acrylic and watercolour, he became a full time artist from 1974, and a member of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists and the Royal Art Society of New South Wales. He has exhibited in solo shows since 1974 in Sydney, Brisbane and Paris. He has won a number suburban and provincial art show awards.
