Born in Brisbane in 1933, Brenda Humble attended two years of introductory art at East Sydney Technical College, then went on to study for a Diploma of Painting from the National Art School in 1960. A painter and portraitist, she had her first solo exhibition in Sydney in 1971. She won the South Sydney Art Prize in 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1980. In 1981, she was highly commended in the Portia Geach Portrait Award.
