Gretchen Leschkau (also known as Gretchen Leschkan) was born in Dresden, Germany in 1874 and studied at Melbourne's National Gallery School from 1897 to 1904. Initially a plein air artist, her work remained influenced by this style. She exhibited with the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors until 1957.
