Born in New South Wales in 1940, Vivienne Binns studied art and painting at Sydney's National Art School. A painter, printmaker, enamellist, jeweller and teacher, she held her first solo exhibition in Sydney in 1967, and during the 1970s was involved with environmental light shows. Binns was artist-in-residence at the University of NSW in 1979, and in 1983 was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for her services to Arts and Crafts.
