A photographer and painter, she opened a studio in Sydney in 1859, specialising in portraiture: colouring over photographs in oils, and painting originals in oils and pastels. She founded her own school of painting in the early 1870s, and also published a book: Word Pictures of Home-Life in NSW in 1887.
