Star Gossage was born in Auckland in 1973 and is of Maori, French, English and Portuguese descent. She gained a Diploma of Fine Arts from Otago Polytechnic School of Art in 1995 and held her first solo exhibition the following year. Since then she has exhibited extensively in solo and goup shows throughout New Zealand including the important 'Five Maori Painters' at Auckland Art Gallery in 2014, and in Sydney and Melbourne. As well as painting, her practice includes theatre, film-making, poetry and sculpture. Star Gossage is a 2014 New Generation Award recipient from the New Zealand Arts Foundation.
