Australian Aboriginal artist Karla Dickens was born in Sydney in 1967 and after schooling, enrolled at the National Art School in Sydney in 1991, where she was awarded a Fine Arts Diploma in 1993 and a Bachelor in Fine Arts in 2000. Dickens has participated in many solo and group exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne and Darwin and at Columbia University, USA in 2001. In 1997 she was the artist in residence at the University of Technology Sydney, Sydney and spent three months in Cape York, Queensland, and in 1998 she had a two-month residency in Guardella, Italy.
