Born at Napier, New Zealand in 1883, Thomas McCormack was mainly a self taught artist, although he studied briefly in Napier and Wellington. As well as being a prolific watercolourist, painting landscapes, seascapes, still life and flower paintings, he was also an art teacher. He settled in Wellington from about 1921 and exhibited with the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts there. He was on the first committee of the New Zealand Society of Artists in 1933.
