Born in Victoria in 1891, Carlyle Jackson studied in Sydney with Julian Ashton, Dattilo Rubbo and J S Watkins. A watercolourist, his landscapes and street scenes received wide acclaim in the 1920s, but was unpopular with gallerists as he preferred to personally sell his works direct to the public.
