Born in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1856, Charles Howorth was known for his landscapes painted in oils and watercolours. He was a co-founder of the Invercargill Art Society in 1893 and moved to Wanganui in about 1912. From 1883 he exhibited widely, including with the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts from 1897 to 1911.
