Alison Coulthurst was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and studied fine arts and graphic design in Capetown and Durban in South Africa. She moved to England in the 1980s and was employed as a graphic artist by an advertising agency. She migrated to Sydney in the early 1990s and established a design studio and after 10 years began her career as a professional artist. She has held solo exhibitions since 2003 in Sydney and Melbourne and overseas in New Zealand, London, Dubai, Bordeaux and Rome and participated in numerous group shows.
