Born in Germany in 1947, Peter Zageris arrived in Australia with his family at the age of three. He studied at the National Gallery School in Melbourne, winning the Hugh Ramsay Prize for portraiture in 1967 and 1968. Zageris paints portraits, genre and landscapes in a realist style, and is a figurative sculptor in bronze and terracotta. He has exhibited in Melbourne since 1972 and has received several commissions for portraits of Australian public figures.
