Born in 1837 in England, William Taylor Smith Tibbits arrived in Australia in the mid 1860s. He moved to melbourne in 1875 and established a loyal clientele as he became known as a painter of substantial private residences. Tibbits moved to Sydney in about 1898 where he contunued his career, though at a slower pace.
